Fall Session Lessons
The Science of Fall
Lesson #1 of the Fall Session
This fall, STEM the Gap is exploring the science of the season! Students will learn why leaves change color and days grow shorter, then put that knowledge into action with two hands-on projects: leaf chromatography and a mini pumpkin launcher. A fun way to connect science with the world around us!
October 11th - 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM - Emerald Fields Dr, Mars, PA 16046

Software Engineering
Lesson #2 of the Fall Session
In this session, students will step into the world of software engineering by coding without a computer! They’ll practice writing step-by-step “code” to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, then learn about binary code while creating their own colorful binary bracelets to take home.
October 25th - 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM - The STEAM Studio (Warrendale, PA)
Chemical Engineering
Lesson #3 of the Fall Session
Join us for a thrilling lesson on the world of chemical engineering! Explore the science behind chemical reactions as we inflate balloons using the science of molecules, and set off your own reaction in a DIY lemon volcano!
November 8th - 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM - The STEAM Studio (Warrendale, PA)

Architectural Engineering
Lesson #4 of the Fall Session
The sky's the limit as explore the STEM behind architectural engineering! Join us for an introduction to this amazing field, and then try it out for yourself as we design earthquake-proof buildings and our dream houses!
November 22nd - 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM - The STEAM Studio (Warrendale, PA)
Structural Engineering
Lesson #5 of the Fall Session
Join us for a festive, STEM-filled lesson on structural engineering! We’ll dive into the basics of shapes and supports, use those skills to design our own gingerbread houses, and wrap things up by making candy-cane sleighs.
December 6th - 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM - The STEAM Studio (Warrendale, PA)

Electrical Engineering
Lesson #6 of the Fall Session
Have you ever wondered how the switches in your house work, or what powers your electronic devices? In our lesson on electrical engineering, we'll dive deep into the science behind circuitry and wiring, learning about the force that powers our everyday lives. Then, we'll experiement with electricty ourselves through two activities -- the human circuit and DIY light-up Christmas cards!
December 20th - 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM - The STEAM Studio (Warrendale, PA)
Our fall session has wrapped up! Don't wait to sign up for the winter session.
